While repairing the roadway where the brook had washed it out in the July flood, we attempted to build some future flood resilience into the repair work. We pulled much of the dirt used to fill in the gully from an area near the culvert that we hope will serve as an alternate pathway for future flood waters. See the photo below. By the time the water level gets high enough to threaten to wash out the culvert again, some portion of the water should be diverted to flow through the alternative spillway.

With extensive help from neighbors Scott Howell and Mike Cannon, today we filled in the gully beside the culvert and restored the roadway at the brook crossing. Kudos to Scott for designing and building new wooden end pieces to help hold the dirt above the culvert, and kudos to Mike for his expert tractor work! Much appreciated!
